News: Get to know: Eddie Dsane

The 22- year old striker, who hails from Croydon, spent his youth playing at Crystal Palace academy where he regularly got the opportunity to train alongside the first team. Eddie moved on from Palace to Preston, where he spent a year in 2015, before signing for Fleetwood Town. The opportunities he expected at Highbury Stadium didn’t arrive, causing his move to Ireland a year later. He played for both Longford Town and Finn Harps in the Irish Premier Division.

After returning to England he had a brief spell at Chipstead before starting the 2018/19 season at Whyteleafe. He netted 14 goals before Christmas before signing for Maldon & Tiptree to help their promotion push. He netted a further14goals (including goals in both the play-off semi-final and final) although the Jammers ultimately missed out on promotion, losing on penalties to Heybridge Swifts. He signed for the Tanners in the summer and has quickly impressed the Green Army faithful with his work rate and his finishing ability.

What persuaded you to sign for Leatherhead in the summer?

I had a few offers and spoke to a few other managers but I got a really positive vibe after speaking to Nikki. I felt like I’d improve as a player working under him so I’m really looking forward to the season.

What are your personal ambitions for your time with the Tanners?

I want to win games and score goals with Leatherhead and hopefully we can achieve something special this season.

Growing up which player did you take inspiration from?

Thierry Henry and Lionel Messi. Thierry Henry is single handedly the reason why I support Arsenal today and in my opinion Messi is the best player in the world.

Which team do you support?

I support Arsenal.

Aside from football what is your main interest?

I like to listen to music, go to the gym and play video games.

What has been the highlight of your football career to date?

Scoring the winner in the play-off semi-finals last season (for Maldon & Tiptree in the 1-0 win against Coggeshall Town).

Do you have any pre-match rituals?

No not at all. I say a prayer before the game and that’s it.

Do you have a nickname?

Ed / Edwardo / Edds

What music do you enjoy listening to before a match?

Hip hop / rap

Who has been the biggest influence on your playing career to date?

My dad, he’s always demanding more from me and doesn’t let me get comfortable. That’s helped me with my development so far.

If you formed a boy band who would be in it, which team mate would be the lead singer?

Simon, Jerry and Travis. Jerry would be the lead singer because he’s got a big personality and I think he has the vocals to take on that responsibility.

If you were marooned on a desert island which teammate would you want with you?

Simon, we’d probably just talk about football the whole time.

You’re hosting a dinner party, which three celebrities would you invite and why?

Meek Mill, Future & Young Thug. I’m a big fan of their music (our older readers may not be too familiar with their music!)

If your life was turned into a movie, which actor would play you?

Samuel L Jackson

What is your footballing ambition (apart from staying at Leatherhead for the next ten years of course!)?

I’d like to eventually play for Arsenal.

Finally, do you have a message for the Leatherhead supporters?

Yes, I’m really looking forward to the upcoming season and I hope we can make the fans proud. A final thought My target is to score more goals than last season – so 30 goals.
